About

Miss Tamang Nepal is a regular beauty pageant organized since 2006 for Tamang women to showcase their talent, confidence, and cultural identity. The competition aims to uncover hidden abilities while promoting Tamang culture, tradition, and women empowerment.

In 2006, Jenisha Moktan won the Miss Tamang Nepal title. She later achieved national and international recognition by winning Miss Nepal 2009 and representing Nepal at Miss World 2010.

Over the years, several talented women have won the title, including Upali Gyabak (2009), Sami Bhajyu (2010), Sumi Moktan (2012), Lakpa Tamang (2013), Muna Shree Tamang (2014), Urmila Yonjan (2016), and Seemran Syangbo (2018).
This pageant stands out from other beauty competitions due to its strong focus on culture, identity, and community values.

Awards and Recognition

The competition offers attractive prizes and recognition to winners:

  • Title Winner: NPR 100,000 cash prize, silver crown, and gift hampers
  • First Runner-Up: NPR 50,000, silver crown, and gift hampers
  • Second Runner-Up: NPR 30,000, silver crown, and gift hampers

The grand finale is traditionally held on Sonam Lhosar, the most important festival of the Tamang community. Additional awards include Best Talent, Best Catwalk, Best Dress, Best Smile, Best Skin, Best Hair, Best Personality, Best-Supported Guardian, Most Popular, Viewers’ Choice, and Best Discipline.


Event Highlights

Annual events were mostly held at Tundikhel, Kathmandu. On special occasions, contestants were brought to the venue by helicopter, creating a memorable and grand spectacle. Millions of Tamangs and non-Tamangs gathered to witness the event, making it one of the most unique beauty pageants in Nepal.

Some editions were also organized in five-star hotels in Kathmandu.

The competition is organized by the Nepal Tamang Art and Culture Center and managed by Sadhana Kala Kendra (SKK). Both organizations are chaired by Mr. Milan Moktan (Padam Kumar Moktan).


Miss Tamang World

To expand its vision globally, the pageant has been upgraded to Miss Tamang World, a global platform created to unite Tamangs living in Nepal, India, and across the world.

Miss Tamang World – 2021 and Beyond

With modernization and global migration, Tamangs now live in many countries worldwide. Despite geographical differences, their language, culture, art, and traditions remain shared. Miss Tamang World aims to strengthen this global connection.

The competition provides a platform to discover, preserve, and promote Tamang talent, culture, music, literature, and heritage. Tamang women from any country can participate, either from Nepal or abroad.

The winner earns the title “Miss Tamang World”, representing the Tamang community worldwide. Future editions are planned to be hosted in different countries on a rotational basis, making it a truly global celebration.
